Orton, Cumbria (Aug 2009)
Our friends the van der Peets and the Majerniks were progressing on the Coast-to-Coast walk, we took a weekend trip to Orton to surprise them.
The coast to coast goes from St. Bees Head in Cumbria (on England’s west coast) and finishes on the east coast at Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire. We knew from their itinerary that they would be in the town of Orton on the weekend of 22/23 August, so we booked the last room in the George Hotel drove down on the Saturday and wandered into the upstairs “lounge” as they were enjoying a cup of tea at the end of their day’s walk.
On Frank and Sylvia’s blog you can read about their day’s walk to Orton – we enjoyed an excellent dinner at the George Hotel along with Kath and Dean who also drove over for the evening.
On the Sunday we joined FnS and SnC for the first part of their walk to Kirkby Stephen – Mal was even forced to take part in the Frank and Steve’s traditional daily gurning photo.
On FnS’ blog each walk has a map showing the route, elevation and speed. Be sure to click the green triangle under the map for a walkthrough of the route. All provided thanks for Frank’s GPS toy.
Here’s a couple of photos from the weekend
